Gramvousa and Balos Lagoon - the only excursion we took organised by the hotel. Mainly because we were on a budget, but also because we were pretty damn lazy. Anyway, Gramvousa is an island off the north-western coast of Crete. We set off from Kissamos harbour and it took us about 45 minutes to get to the island that hosts the remains of Venetian fort and the remains of buildings left behind by Cretan insurgents, who were
compelled to live as pirates, during the Greek War of Independence.

Another 20 minutes away by boat was Balos Lagoon where Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited many years ago. Gorgeous white sand and turquoise crystalline water... what's more to want?
